BoomerZ initiative : Connecting generations, securing knowledge, shaping the future

With the launch of the BoomerZ initiative, an innovative transformation concept is being introduced that specifically promotes intergenerational dialogue within companies. The goal is to systematically preserve the valuable experience of the Baby Boomer generation and combine it with the digital expertise of younger generations. Especially in manufacturing and IT-related industries, the shortage of skilled workers poses a major challenge—vacant positions remain unfilled, while the departure of Baby Boomers brings the threat of losing crucial knowledge.

BoomerZ relies on mixed teams of experienced professionals and young talents. In so-called knowledge dialogues, senior employees share their operational expertise, while younger colleagues contribute digital skills and new methods. The results are documented and stored in company knowledge databases—as a resource for onboarding, daily operations, and future automation.

The initiative is accompanied by training sessions, workshops, and coaching programs that strengthen collaboration between generations and break down cultural barriers. Initiator Friedrich Steininger, Managing Director of DE software & control, emphasizes: “Technology is not the problem, but rather communication between generations. BoomerZ creates concrete formats for everyday work to resolve this misunderstanding.”

BoomerZ demonstrates how companies can actively address the shortage of skilled workers—through structured knowledge transfer, intergenerational collaboration, and a clear focus on digitalization. This creates a new culture of cooperation and innovation.
